Kangaroo: desktop for kids

How many hours children spend in front of screens? is there a way to make sure they are exposed only to contents suitable for their age? KANGAROO takes over the home computer or tablet, and shows only the contents approved by the parents. parents can set a stopwatch to monitor their kids’s watching time.

HOMEPAGE THE DESIGN CHALLENGE

As a daily OS for all family children, the desktop should be clear and simple to navigate, and yet colourful and fun. Although there is a stopwatch that monitors activity time, it should look bright and playful.

VERSION 1: simple and conservative, looks like familiar operating systems

VERSION 2: More fun, creative, free and iconic look of free boxes in space. the use of real apps/videos images makes it look too cluttered and messy.

Version 3: I created a new system of colors and shape for each category. I focused on real children’s activity images, instead of app images.

Version 4: droped the shapes, and focused only on color and icons differentiation. the main theme is round playful and clear environment.

LOGO

The KANGAROO as a symbol of a protective parent. the logo started a real kangaroo illustration – and anded up with a big iconic, colorful K letter. which also refers to the the words KIDS.
